Have you ever driven past a place that piqued your interest and you thought about long after, wishing you had gone inside?
That happened to me with the Windmill Country Market in Mt. Pleasant. I passed by it a few months ago and was fascinated by the huge windmill and why this place in the country was so busy. So I asked people about it and everyone seemed to know about it. I heard how wonderful the home made baked goods were and that the hot meals were delicious. So today I went to try it for myself and I am a huge fan. It’s always packed and people are always parked on the road.
The first thing you see when you walk in is the massive selection of cakes, tarts, squares, cookies, pies and other sweets. I couldn’t help but buy six fruit tarts to bring home.
I also purchased some mexican cheddar cheese (their cheese selection is extensive; I could have spent a lot of money on their artisan cheeses) that will be delicious on tacos or in a mac and cheese.
Not only do they have fresh meats, cheese and a huge bakery, they are a country store that sells handmade items.
Even though the Windmill is Brant County, not Haldimand or Norfolk it’s very close to where all three counties meet and a trip to Haldimand/Norfolk should definitely include a trip to Mt. Pleasant to check out the Windmill Market. I highly suggest if you are in the area to stop in for lunch or just a treat. They are closed Sunday and Monday so make sure to plan your visit Tuesday to Saturday.
